Waste plant at Brahmapuram.
The project of the corporation at Brahmapuram for the disposal of the waste was commissioned a few years back and among a great fanfare. There were already allegations that the machinery were heavy and the foundation laid is not adequate for the smooth running of the machines. Mayor defended the action of the corporation. One Andhra NGO was entrusted with the task of running the unit, but they left after the initial working. There was a dispute regarding money. Now the waste is stockpiled in the yard and the plastic segregated got fire and the immediate neighbors are greatly troubled. Somebody came for collecting the waste plastic for the purpose of recycling, and why he was not engaged is the question. Plastic when burnt emits very pungent smoke which is injurious to the human health, but who cares. Corporation employees find it easy to burn the plastic as a means of disposal. Soaked deeply in corruption the coporation activity is mainly in violating their own rules. Recently they gave sanction to the famous textile shop in MG Road to construct their shop, without any provision for car park. Now their customers' cars are parked in the main road, causing serious traffic bottle necks. Corporation staff break their own rules.
